Happy Spring!

The title is my effort to be positive in one of the coldest Minnesota Springs in my memory! Today the temperature was in the 40's with a very cold wind. On a brighter note the grass is starting to get green!

As the due date of my third child approaches I find I am making less time to post. It is really because I am taking more time to take care of myself. If I am truly going to make wellness my choice I need to remember that every little choice I make can affect my wellness in the long run!

With this in mind I recommend to anyone who wants to improve their life in any way to read The Slight Edge: The Secret to a Successful Life. This is an incredible book that should be required for every human being to read. If you take time to read it let me know what you think!

A new study commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association (OCA)
found that many leading "natural" and "organic" brand shampoos, body
washes, and lotions contain the carcinogenic contaminant 1,4-Dioxane.


1,4-Dioxane is considered a chemical "known to the State of California
to cause cancer."
It is a byproduct of the cancer-causing petrochemical
Ethylene Oxide, which is used as part of a short-cut process called
Ethoxylation, which makes harsh ingredients milder.
1,4-Dioxane is also suspected of being a kidney toxicant, neurotoxicant
and respiratory toxicant, among others, according to the California EPA.
It is also a leading groundwater contaminant.
Some of the leading organic and natural brands found to contain
1,4-Dioxane include:
* JASON Pure Natural & Organics
* Giovanni Organic Cosmetics
* Kiss My Face
* Nature's Gate Organics
To avoid 1,4-dioxane, OCA recommends reading ingredient labels and
avoiding products with indications of ethoxylation, which include:

"polyethylene," "polyethylene glycol," "polyoxyethylene," or "oxynol,"
in ingredient names.

Do You Need to Supplement with a Vitamin and Mineral or is it Just Expensive Waste?

If you have not noticed the health supplement industry is booming. Top economists are calling the wellness industry the next trillion dollar industry. All around us we are surrounded by advertisements of various supplements. There are an overwhelming number of choices. Do you really need to supplement your diet?

Yes, if you want to have a long healthy life you must supplement your diet! You have probably heard doctors tell you that supplements are expensive pee. It is hard to believe but some doctors still believe that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but you would think a doctor would know the truth about nutrition.

The truth is our soil is more depleted than ever in history. This means all produce is lacking in vitamins and minerals. Even if we ate the USDA recommended 13 servings of fruits and vegetables per day we would still be lacking. The produce is that depleted!

It is probably safe to say over 99% of the population does not even get half of this recommendation in a day. The North American diet is full of processed foods, fast foods, and chemicals. Our body is on overdrive trying to get rid of the bad stuff without ever getting the appropriate amount of nutrients it needs. This leads to even more depletion in our bodies.

The next reason we must supplement is because of green harvesting. Most fruits and vegetables are harvested green so they can be ripe on the shelves. This depletes them of all the phyto-chemicals they would have gotten if they were ripened on the vine.

The fact is that even the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) has reported the need, not the choice, of, at the very least a vitamin and mineral supplement to your diet.

Quality is very important when supplementing your diet. It is important to educate yourself on what kind of supplement is the best for your body. To start your supplementation program it is very important to use a good whole food vitamin and mineral supplement. When I say whole food I mean that the ingredients come from food and not synthetic chemicals.

There are many more whole food vitamins available than minerals. Most natural mineral supplements are actually very small rocks. Some are even in liquid form claiming the body is able to absorb them. The truth is a rock is a rock. Our bodies were not designed to absorb rocks. A mineral must first be absorbed by a plant before our body is able to utilize it and all its benefits.

If you still think you are exempt from at least a vitamin and mineral supplement you have probably never experienced a major illness. It is true that most people have to have their health taken away before they start taking responsibility for it. That is just part of the hard knock theory of life.

If you are a person that can learn from other people's mistakes take a close look around you. You will find in the news that illness and disease is rampant. Fifty years ago there were only a handful of auto-immune diseases. Today there are over 80 identified with many more people that doctors do not know what to call what they have.

Sometimes the "Yeah but people are living longer than ever" objection comes up. The truth is that people are actually dying longer than ever, living their life in constant pain and illness. Glyconutrients - What Are Glyconutrients and What Do They Have To Do With Health?

It seems that there are so many health supplements available in the market today. One of the newest kids on the block is glyconutrients. What are these nutrients and what do they have to do with good health?

Glyconutrients are not a drug. They are not a vitamin, mineral, herb, or homeopathic remedy. They are a nutrient of their own kind. They are not really something that should be considered a discovery but rather an awakening. They have been around since the beginning of time. It just took technology to find out what the applications for these very important nutrients are.

Glyco comes from a Greek word meaning sweetness. So Glyconutrient means sugar nutrient. Do not be fooled by the sweet name. These nutrients are not like table sugar which is also referred to as sucrose. We all know that too much of this kind of sugar leads to many health problems. Problems like stressing out the pancreas, ruining teeth, leading to obesity and literally starving the body.

Glyconutrients are made up of plant saccharides (sugars). They are not sweet like sucrose. This is going to get a little scientific but hang on while I try to describe it to you in simple terms. It has been discovered that these simple sugars combine in the body with different substances. They especially combine with proteins and lipids. When they form with proteins they make a glycoprotein. These glycoproteins are now known to be critical for all cell-to-cell communication.

There are actually over 200 of these simple sugars known in nature. Only eight of these are commonly found in the sugar chains of glycoproteins. The names of the eight known necessary sugars are: glucose, galactose, fucose, mannose, xylose, n-acetylglucosamine, n-acetylgalactosamine, and n-acetylneuraminic acid.

Rather than going into anymore scientific information let's look at what this means in your body. Glyconutrients have been discovered to facilitate cell-to-cell communication. Our cells are in constant communication on a daily basis. Disease actually begins as a miss communication with our cells or no communication at all. The bottom line is if we have healthy cells, they then make up healthy tissues, to healthy organs, to healthy systems.

Healthy cells = Healthy Tissues = Healthy Organs = Healthy Systems = Healthy You!

So why do we need to supplement with these nutrients?

As most health conscious people know our food is now what it used to be. Soil is now more depleted of nutrients than ever. Green harvesting is done so our fruits and vegetables ripen on the grocery shelf rather than the vine. Many of the most important nutrients in our produce come from the vine in the ripening process. Over processed food also contributes greatly to our nutrient-deficient food.

The truth is our body can actually make all of the eight necessary glyconutrients. Problem is this is supposed to be a back up system, not the primary system. Our food has changed so much, even in the last 50 years, that we only get maybe 2 out of the 8 necessary sugars in our modern diets. If you need proof that our diets are lacking something look around you. It is very evident that people are getting sicker and sicker, at younger and younger ages. Just read a magazine or watch the news to confirm that statement!

So how will glyconutrients improve our health?

At one time in our history Scurvy was known as a very horrible disease. Then one day someone discovered it was simply a vitamin C deficit. It seemed miraculous when those suffering a horrible disease were given the nutrient they needed and they got better.

The most important nutrient in our diet is always the one that is missing!

You may ask yourself if these nutrients are so great why doesn't my doctor know about them. The truth is doctor's study and practice medicine not nutrition! Remember that glyconutrients are not a medicine they are literally a food!

The Love of Health and Wellness MLM

The past couple of days I have run into experiences that have made me reflect on why I am so passionate about my health and wellness MLM. It really is not about the money or the success. It is about changing and improving peoples lives!

My health and wellness MLM products change lives! This morning I was visiting with a young mother whose son’s health was improved greatly. They went from hopeless to hopeful. (You can read a little bit of her story on the right hand side of my blog.) These are the kinds of things that make the world go round. Helping people is the most rewarding experience you can have in life.

In my life I was blessed with a brain tumor in my early twenties. This experience made me value life, health, and wellness to the fullest extent. The moment the doctor told me my diagnosis it felt as if my life were pulled from underneath me. All my hopes and dreams for the future became blurry.

After they removed my tumor I was considered by the doctors cured. But, they also told me I was at high risk for many diseases and ailments because of the damage it had caused. That is when I started down the path of going to the doctor all the time and not getting any answers. It was at this time I decided my wellness was my own responsibility.

Since then I have started on a supplement program that includes plant saccharides. It is amazing how vibrant I feel. My path is not always leading me to the doctor anymore. In fact it is leading me to live a life full of love and joy sharing with my family! Since that time I have made it my mission to help others who want to achieve wellness. That is why I am truly passionate about the company I work with.

5 Easy Ways to Become an Active Participant in your Health and Well-being

Health has really always been a passion for me. For as long as I can remember I have been health conscious in many different ways. After high school I became a RN for that very reason. My biggest surprise after becoming a nurse was that I was not in the health field at all. It was the sick field. In all the different areas I have worked I have experienced sickness care rather than wellness care.

Everyone is concerned about you after they figure out you are sick. Health teaching is about early detection rather than prevention. The interesting thing is that health and wellness is everywhere in the public eye. You do not have to look far to find information on how to live healthier. Are you taking an active role in your health and well-being or are you hoping to detect something and try to treat it before it kills you?

Every health and wellness article I have read seems to carry the same theme: modest change can produce great health improvements. The truth is people just do not want to listen.

The other day a man was telling me about this pain he gets in his right side when he eats really high fat foods. He said it was really starting to bother him. When I asked if he had pain when he ate healthier foods with less fat he bluntly said, “No, then I have no pain at all”. He really thought he needed a doctor to fix this problem. To me this is a no brainer. Stop eating the bad food and eat healthier food. When I suggested this to him he said to me, “I’ve never been a guy who has had to watch what I eat and I do not really want to start now”.

This is a prime example of not taking a responsibility in your health. He knew what caused his pain. The culprit was a high fat unhealthy diet. But, he had no intentions of changing that. In his mind he needs a doctor to fix him.

Here are five very easy health habits you can form to improve your well-being. Keep in mind as you are doing this that it takes about thirty days to develop a habit. Stick with this for a month and you will be surprised at how much better you feel.

1- Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.

Your body needs water to hydrate cells and flush out toxins. Several daily ailments like low energy, head aches and constipation will improve greatly if you just increase your water intake. Remember I did not say your fluid intake. Coffee and pop have no nutritional value and will not hydrate you. Increase your water intake only.

2- Eat at least one fresh fruit and vegetable a day.

You are probably thinking that I have lost it because every other resource says you need 5-10 fruits and vegetables a day. The key to this point is fresh. You are going to get the most nutrients from fresh fruits and vegetables. Definitely eat the 5-10 per day but make sure you have at least one of each that is fresh.

3- Get Moving.

How many times have you heard this? If you can’t stop watching your favorite TV programs at night get up on the commercials and march. If you have children you can make it a game. It is best if you can get outside and get some fresh air and exercise as well. You will feel immediate effects from implementing this routine daily!

4- Get more sunlight. Sunlight provides us with vitamin D. This vitamin is essential for strong bones and your immune system. The best part is it is free to soak up some sun. Get at least 15-60 minutes per day. A perfect time to do this is when you are exercising!

5- Get your sleep. If you honestly commit to the first four points you will more likely enjoy sleeping at a higher level. Why, because you will sleep better! Cheating yourself of sleep can be preventing you from a full healthy life.

These are some very simple steps you can take to improve your wellness. Make a commitment to these activities for a full month and you will be amazed at the improvements in your life. How to Find High Quality Health Supplements: Buyer Beware!

If you are interested in health and wellness at all you know that the supplement industry is exploding. The truth is that people are sick and tired of being sick and tired. They are looking for answers beyond their doctor’s office. Most of them look to supplementing their diet as a first intervention. The problem with this is the lack of quality health supplements that consumers are taking.

So how do you know if you are buying a high quality health supplement?

Well the truth is that most of the health supplements you can buy at your local grocery store or department store were made in China. Needless to say they do not have a very good track record on the quality of their products. There was a recent scandal in which adulterated wheat gluten from China led to the deaths of thousands of pets in North America and other instances of food and toothpaste tampering.

This is not exactly what you are thinking about when you are looking for a health supplement to improve your health. So you are probably thinking I guess I will start reading the labels. Well that will not help. U.S. laws do not require food and drug sellers to label products with ingredients country of origin. It is literally impossible to know where your food supplements are coming from.

The good news is that you can find quality supplements out there. You probably should stay away from retail stores if you do not want supplements that were produced in another country.

There are companies in the United States that adhere to good manufacturing practices on their own. These practices are for human foods recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

How do you find these companies that produce high quality health supplements?

You have to do your research. I know that is not what most of you want to here but it is the truth. An easy way to get started on this is to look at MLM and network marketing companies that have supplements. Most of these companies will have a much higher quality of supplement than you will find in any store.

The best thing about buying from a MLM or network marketing company is that you will be buying from a representative that can give you all the information you need about the quality. Here are some points to check out about the supplement and the manufacturing:

- Is there current research being done on the effectiveness of the supplement?

- What kind of quality assurance does the company have in place?

- What product testing is done to validate high quality?

- Is there a safety monitor system in place?

If you can get these questions answered you will be on your way to purchasing a high quality health supplement. You are probably thinking that this is too much work just to find a supplement. The truth of the matter is that your health cannot be replaced like your car and house. I am guessing that you probably did some research before you purchased both of those items.

Are you Anti-Aging proof?

Today was my grandmother's 86th birthday. I love to spend time with her and my grandpa so I baked up a birthday cake, loaded up my two girls and went to visit with them. We had a lovely birthday party. My grandmother said "I will always remember my 86th birthday!"

Tonight when I was tucking my 4 year old daughter into bed she asked me if I was going to get old like Grandma. (Grandma has white hair, a hard time walking and shows that she has worked hard in her 86 years.)

To her question I naturally replied, "yes, someday." I was shocked when she started to cry. "I don't want you to get old like Grandma." I tried to reassure her that it would be many years from now and she would be lots older when I was old.

She started to cry even more. "Mommy I don't want you to get old." It really touched my heart that she even would ask about this. She knows Grandma has a hard time just getting around and doing her daily activities. She did not want the same for me.

Being the health conscious mom I told my daughter she would have to help me with my anti-aging. She would have to remind me to eat healthy foods and exercise everyday. She was very willing to be my helper in that area.

Even though I have not reached the age of thirty yet, I realize how important it is to make healthy choices. This was prompted by a serious medical condition I faced in my early twenties. In the ant-aging process we must start as young as possible. The decisions we make every day affect the way we age.

Take control of your life today and make a healthy decision. The age you look depends on it!

My daughter said to me as I left her bedroom tonight, "Mommy I want you to stay young forever!" I believe we all hold this hope in our heart. It is time we take our age into our own hands and start taking care of ourselves.

When you got started in your wellness network marketing business you probably wanted to try the products first. Your sponsor probably told you about the amazing results they had using the wellness products. Like most, you probably are or were facing some sort of healthcare challenge. It is true that we are in a health crisis. People are getting sicker everyday at a younger and younger age. Our country’s report card on health is an F all the way when you compare it to the cost of healthcare! These people do probably need your products but do not target them, let them come to you first.

So if you don’t target sick people who do you talk to?

A better prospect for the wellness network marketer is a health conscious consumer who is always trying to improve their health. These are the people that with a little education can see why they need the product and they become your loyal and faithful customers. Some of them even go on to share the products with other people to start growing a business. Even though the health conscious person is better to prospect than the sick person they are not the best prospect out there.

There is an even better prospect out there to help you build your wellness network marketing business faster and stronger!

The best prospect to build your wellness network marketing business is the opportunity seeker. That is an individual who is looking for an opportunity to start a business of their own. You may be asking, “Why is the best prospect for wellness network marketing an opportunity seeker?” The reason the business opportunity seeker is the better prospect is because they are looking to build a business. It doesn’t matter the product, the opportunity seeker’s main focus is to build a business. If they become a wellness network marketer the best choice for them would be to use the wellness company’s product that they are representing. 5 Easy Ways to Live Healthier

These are 5 very easy and basic ways to improve your health in 2008!

1. Eat more fruits and veggies.

You are what you eat so does that make you a Big Mac or a salad? One very simple and inexpensive way to live healthier is to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. Take some time each day to plan how you can eat more fruits and veggies.

There are many labeling tactics out there that call juice or some other non-fruit or vegetable a serving of fruit or vegetables. Try to eat half or all of your five servings of fruits and vegetables in their most natural form: raw. In the winter it can be challenging to eat raw fruits and vegetables so buy the least processed form from the store. Frozen fruits and vegetables usually are picked vine ripened and they have the least amount of processing compared to canned produce.

2. Stop drinking pop.

This really is a no-brainer. Pop has no nutritional value. It has no hydrating power and can actually dehydrate you worse. Pop also contains phosphorus which is known to leach calcium from our bones. This is a hard feat for those that are addicted. Start adding more water into your day. Instead of drinking a can of pop drink 12 ounces of water. You will notice quickly an increase of energy and vitality from the increased amount of water in your diet!

3. Exercise.

Exercise is a common sense approach to a healthier life. Add two and a half hours of exercise a week to your life to improve your health. What is the best way to exercise? This is very individual. If you like to walk, call your friend and get out and walk in the fresh air. Go play actively outside with your kids for thirty minutes. The ideas are endless and so are the benefits from a regular exercise program!

4. Manage your weight.

Managing your weight is easier said than done. Start with small goals. You will notice a change in how your pants fit after losing just five pounds. Small goals add up and begin to equal big goals. Make a commitment this year to lose ten pounds. Ten pounds may not seem like much but if you do this consistently for 5 years you will weigh 50 pounds less! If you are at a healthy weight, work hard to maintain it. Your health depends on it!

5. Modest change.
